Doctors and Nurses Amazed by Newborn’s Size

Pamela Mann, a first-time mother from Alabama, was left in shock when the entire delivery room gasped at the moment her baby was born. While her C-section had gone smoothly, she initially feared something was wrong.

“The doctor pulled her out, and suddenly all the nurses were exclaiming, ‘Oh God!’ ‘Wow!’” Mann, 31, recalled in an interview with TODAY.com. “I started to panic because I didn’t know what was happening.”

Moments later, she learned the reason behind their astonishment—her baby girl, Paris Halo, weighed a staggering 14 pounds, 4 ounces—nearly twice the size of an average newborn.

Newborn Paris Halo Becomes the Talk of the Hospital

Mann, a delivery driver, initially thought her baby’s weight was normal. “I assumed 13 pounds was average. I had no idea!” she said with a laugh. But the hospital staff quickly corrected her.

According to the American Pregnancy Association, full-term babies typically weigh between 6 and 9 pounds, making Paris’s birth weight truly remarkable.

Since her birth on March 4 at Grand View Medical Center in Alabama, Paris has become a mini-celebrity. Nurses from different departments are making special visits just to see how big she is.

Nicknames Pour In for the Big Baby

The Mann family has been flooded with nickname suggestions for their newborn, ranging from “Pork Chop” to “Big Mama”. But one name that stands out is “Star”—a tribute to her growing popularity just days after birth.

“She’s only 3 days old, and she’s already famous,” Mann joked.

Special Care in NICU, But Thriving

Despite her size, Paris is currently in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for extra monitoring but is doing well. Doctors expect her to be discharged later this week.

“She’s receiving extra love and care, but she’s strong and healthy,” Mann assured.

A Rare but Not Unprecedented Birth Weight

While Paris Halo’s birth weight is extraordinary, it is not the heaviest recorded. The Guinness World Record for the heaviest baby to survive infancy goes to a 22-pound, 8-ounce boy born in Aversa, Italy, in 1955. More recently, in 2019, Joy Buckley from New York gave birth to a 15-pound, 5-ounce baby girl.

Reflecting on her experience, Buckley told The Washington Post, “I felt like I had been hit by two tractor-trailers at the same time.”

A Memorable Birth Story for the Mann Family

As Pamela Mann prepares to take her daughter home, she is embracing the attention and excitement surrounding Paris Halo’s birth. “She’s already special, and this is just the beginning of her journey,” she said.

Paris Halo’s incredible size has not only amazed doctors and nurses but has also captured the curiosity of people worldwide.
