Former Miss Universe Harnaaz Sandhu welcomed the spirit of Lohri with warmth and elegance, celebrating the harvest festival in Mumbai while staying connected to her Punjabi roots. Known for her infectious smile and grace, Harnaaz shared glimpses of the festivities, blending tradition with modern style, and highlighting the joy of bonfires, folk music, and togetherness.

Harnaaz on the Significance of Lohri

Reflecting on the festival’s importance, Harnaaz said, “Lohri is about gratitude, warmth, and staying connected to my roots. Growing up in Punjab, it meant family gatherings, bonfires, bhangra, and listening to tales of Dulla Bhatti. Visiting my village, enjoying pinniyas, and spending time with cousins are memories that always ground me.

She fondly recalls, “Singing Lohri songs with extended family, sharing ghatak and peanuts, and dancing bhangra after the bonfire brought pure joy and celebration.

Keeping Traditions Alive Worldwide

Despite traveling globally, Harnaaz ensures she maintains Lohri traditions wherever she is. “I’m grateful for a family that always reminds me of my roots. Lohri is special and auspicious, so I make it a point to visit a Gurudwara and light a bonfire anywhere in the world. I also love sending gajak and rewri to my loved ones during this time.

She appreciates that Punjabi festivals are gaining global recognition. “Through music, culture, food, and stories, the world can experience the joy and pride behind our traditions. It’s the heart that connects everyone.
