Global Survey Highlights Unmatched Growth Momentum
In its September 2026 edition of the Chief Economists' Outlook, the World Economic Forum (WEF) designated India as the world's most resilient growth prospect among all major surveyed geographies. Based on responses from 92 leading public and private sector chief economists worldwide, the report highlights a significant surge in confidence regarding South Asia's largest economy. A total of 98% of respondents project moderate or stronger expansion for India over the next year, with 74% anticipating "strong or very strong" growth—up from 52% in the May 2026 assessment.

Domestic Demand Outpaces Global Headwinds
The WEF report credits India's sustained trajectory to solid domestic demand, resilient services sector performance, and robust public capital expenditure. Placing slightly ahead of South-East Asia (where 73% expect strong growth), India stands out as a primary engine for the post-pandemic global economy. Furthermore, the survey notes that 62% of economists expect inflation-adjusted household incomes in India to rise over the next 12 months—a stark contrast to major developed markets where real incomes are projected to stagnate or decline due to persistent living costs.
Macroeconomic stability also reinforces the outlook. Inflation expectations have moderated since earlier in the year, with 55% of chief economists anticipating moderate inflation within the Reserve Bank of India’s target band. A vast majority of respondents expect both monetary policy (67%) and fiscal policy (72%) settings to remain broadly stable, providing a predictable environment for long-term domestic investments.
Divergence in Multinational Business Rankings
Despite leading global growth prospects, the WEF survey revealed a slight divergence regarding India's relative standing as a destination for multinational company operations. India slipped from second to fourth place in the preferred MNC business environment rankings—behind the United States, South-East Asia, and Europe—with 40% of economists including it in their top three destinations. Analysts attribute this shift to evolving global trade reconfigurations, tariff uncertainties, and competitive policy incentives introduced across rival emerging hubs in South-East Asia. Nevertheless, with quarterly GDP growth performing strongly and major global agencies upgrading baseline forecasts toward 7%, India remains the central anchor of world economic expansion.
