Private medical colleges and deemed universities account for the remaining 76,543 seats (65,843 renewed and 10,700 increased). Karnataka leads the country with 15,395 total MBBS seats, closely followed by Uttar Pradesh with 14,000 seats, Maharashtra with 13,099 seats, and Tamil Nadu with over 14,200 seats.
Significant regional increases were recorded in Karnataka (+1,650 seats), Tamil Nadu (+1,250 seats), Bihar (+1,240 seats), Uttar Pradesh (+1,200 seats), and Rajasthan (+1,100 seats), reflecting new medical college approvals and infrastructural expansions under central and state health schemes.
Strict Directives Against Excess Admissions and Regulatory Compliance
Concurrently with the seat matrix release, the NMC issued a stern advisory to all medical college administrations and counselling bodies. Institutions have been strictly instructed to admit candidates strictly against the sanctioned capacity approved and notified by MARB on nmc.org.in. The Commission warned that any institution admitting students beyond its authorized annual intake will face punitive measures under the National Medical Commission Act, 2019.
Counselling authorities—including the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for All India Quota (15%) and state counselling boards for State Quota (85%)—were instructed to cross-verify approved institutional capacity before allocating seats to prevent seat allotment discrepancies during active allotment rounds.
