August’s Supermoon Blue Moon 2024 captivated skywatchers worldwide, and we’ve gathered some of the most breathtaking photos to showcase this extraordinary event.
The Supermoon Blue Moon reached its peak at 2:26 p.m. EDT (1826 GMT) on Monday, Aug. 19, 2024, when the moon was 100% illuminated. Depending on your location, moonrise times varied, offering unique perspectives of this spectacular sight.
A seasonal Blue Moon is the third full moon in a season with four full moons. The term “supermoon” refers to a full moon occurring when the moon is within 90% of its closest distance to Earth in its orbit, as explained by NASA. This August full moon will be followed by three more supermoons on Sept. 17, Oct. 17, and Nov. 15.
